Setting up a DTC Interface in iTrain

Hi Everyone,

I have recently installed a Fleischmann Turntable with the VPEB DinaSys DTC/DTS Controller.

I have added a turntable into the iTrain switchboard and also added a corresponding Interface and selected the only available COM Port, COM3:USB Serial Port.

However, when I now try to connect iTrain, I get an error message window popping up saying "Serial Port COM3 Suddenly Closed" and iTrain won't connect unless I delete that interface.

Does anyone know what the problem could be ? I suspect a problem with the COM port.

Then I tried this......

I have just plugged a USB cable between the DTC interface and my laptop and refreshed the Interface settings. There is now a new port appeared and when i select this, I am now able to connect iTrain and the turntable works.

I've attached another screenshot.

However, if I disconnect the USB Cable, it all stops working again !

Any ideas please as I obviously can't leave the USB connected to my laptop when my layout is in use ?

Thanks in advance !

a USB connection is mandatory needed between DTC and the PC where iTrain is running on - otherwise iTrain would not be able to "see" the turntable with DTC or the steer the turntable with DTC.

Many Thanks Fritz,

I’ve now purchased an active USB cable that is 10 metres long. I will be trying it out later today to see if it works. If it does, my problem will be solved.

Kind regards,

Bryan
