reedcontacten schakelen niet door stuurmagneet

Hallo,
John.

Hello,
I have a problem. I have build a FCS track and for detection i have used glass reedcontacts. I have placed them next to the magnetic line according to the description in the ucci manual. But testing with a bus to see if all Works, some reedcontacts are not activated by the steering magnet. Testing the reedcontact with a magnet, it Works fine. It seems to me that the stering magnet has not enough force. How to solve this?.

John.

John,
There are two solutions:
- replace the guide arm magnet by a stronger version. This adds some friction you may not want.
- add another magnet under the car. You can even put it under the receive coil.

be sure to check the minimum order value and shipping. They make a lot of difference!

Hans,

By adding another magnet under the car, the reedcontacts who are responding to the stering magnet, are activated twice when you add another magnet under the car. How does koploper respond to that second signal?

John,

I had the same problem at my first test track ( about 1 year ago) my reedcontacts (big glass)were not activated in the coners . I added another magnet under the car, just behind the steering maganisem. And it worked. As far as I know I hadn't any problems with "koploper" seeing that second signal. Now i use very sesative reedcontacts witch are activated just by the standerd magnet on a Faller car.

Jasper,

So i am not the only one having problems with reedcontacts. I am curious about the very sensative reedcontacts. Did you test a lot of differend reedcontacts and what are the specs and where can you buy them for the next project, possibly also for other bilders of FCS tracks with the same problems.

greetings,
John.

John & Jasper,

more sensitive switches are a lot more expensive (3-4 euro each instead of 0.80 - 2 euro). And you will need a lot of them. A few magnets are much cheaper.

Hans.

Hans & Jasper,

Thank you both for replying so quickly. I know now what to do (testing with an extra magnet).

regards,

John.

Netherlands

John,

the dinamo system prevents the duplicate messages. There is a timeout period when switching on and off the occupation signal.
When you move a single magnet over a reed switch you almost always have more then one signal.
See this movie about the different reeds and magnet orientation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFTBTPc8bqM

see http://www.1op87.nl/index.php/weblinks/42-techniek-achtergrond for some links about the technique of reed switches.

John,

I bought the reeds by franell, from the company MEDER. They are very small and they cost from 50 picies 0,64 euro (ex. btw)each. I was lucky because my uncle works at a company that can buy from farnell. But a extra magnet will work as well and is faster to fix! I bought them because I m making a demo track voor Rail 2010.
if you are interested in the reeds ;-) see the link below

Netherlands

Jasper,

these are indeed high sensitive switches (Meder type C). Compliments for finding these at this price.

Hans.
